![]() ![]() To understand the complete working of LCD, we need to look at its internal structure. This is the reason due to which LCDs are usually preferred over CRT monitors. LCDs have less weight as compared to CRT monitors and they give a more appealing display of pictures/videos etc. It has a crystal like looking liquid present inside of it. LCD is a kind of display monitor that is thinner than CRT monitors. Liquid crystal displays, also known as LCD’s are a kind of hardware that are used in many electronic devices such as calculators, Apple iPad and computer monitors. These monitors consume more power to operate. The images shown by the CRT monitors are not as sharp as the LCD screens are. CRT screens do not give as much better display results as the LCD screens do. Usually CRTs are bulky, high weighted and have larger infrastructure as compared to LCDs which are not that much bulky. There are many cons of CRT monitors due to which it is not preferred over LCD screens. That glowing of colors makes the picture to be visible on the monitor screen. When the electron beam emitted from the electron gun strikes the phosphors dots, these dots glow. ![]() These are the primary colors while all the other secondary colors are made by combining these basic colors. ![]() The fluorescent screen has phosphors dots on it of three different colors red, green and blue. That electron beam passes through the vertical and horizontal plates to strike the fluorescent screen. Hence negatively charged particles are attracted towards the anode that is positively charged. These electrons emitted from the electron gun are negatively charged while the anode following the electron gun is positively charged. Then at the very front of the tube, there exists a fluorescent screen upon which the beam of the electron strikes. Then there are horizontal and vertical plates called as X-plates and Y-plates respectively. Then a positively charged anode is present in front of the electron gun. In front of the cathode there is an electron gun that emits electrons. As one can look onto the figure that there is a cathode at the back of the tube. Response of LCDs is faster as compared to CRT monitors.ĬRT monitors work slower on the other respect.Ĭomplete definitions and explanation of both LCD and CRT is given below:įig 1: Internal mechanism of CRT display Structure of the CR Tube:Ĭomplete mechanism of CRT Display is shown in the above figure. Image is formed by striking of electron beam from the electron gun placed inside the CRT monitors. The core task of forming image is done by the crystals. Images sometimes flicker on CRT monitor screens and that is the reason of less good image quality.ĬRT requires more electric power for its working. Images do not flicker on the screens of LCDs.ĭisplay quality of CRT monitors is not as good as LCDs. LCD screens provide a better display quality. This is the reason that LCDs are preferred over CRT monitors. LCDs have lesser weights as compared to CRT monitors. ![]() This electron gun emits electron beams that strikes the phosphors dots on the monitor screen. LCDs have a crystal like liquid inside of it that directs the light to the screen from the bottom of the monitor.ĬRTs have an electron gun at the end of the monitor tube. LCD is a symbol for Liquid Crystal Displays. Comparison Chart between LCD and CRT monitors CRT displays have a cathode rays emitting tube inside of them that emit rays and when those rays strike with the fluorescent screen, it emits light and hence displays the pictures. CRT display and LCD both have many differences between each other. Both CRT display screen and LCD screen are kind of desktop or monitor which are used to display images or videos on their screens. CRT is a symbol for Cathode Ray Tube while the acronym LCD symbolizes Liquid Crystal Display. ![]()
